“Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rate of female entrepreneurs globally with approximately 26% of female adults involved in entrepreneurial activity.” - Women and the Changing Face of Entrepreneurship in Africa (Harvard University, 2020)

“Women outscored men on 17 of the 19 capabilities that differentiate excellent leaders from average or poor ones, including taking initiative, acting with resilience, practicing self-development, driving for results, and displaying high integrity and honesty.” - Research: Women Score Higher Than Men in Most Leadership Skills (Harvard Business Review, 2019)

“Investments made into African female-led startups have grown by nearly seven-fold over the last three years.” - The rise in funding to female-led startups in Africa has many caveats (Quartz Africa, 2022)

Women-owned businesses in Africa are underestimated and under-resourced. We are on a mission to change that.

At the African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative, we see examples every day of the ways that women entrepreneurs contribute directly to their local economies, provide innovative solutions to challenges in their communities, and generate job opportunities and revenue for their neighbors and peers. They are changemakers, economic drivers, and community leaders. They power Africa.

This year, we are asking you to support our work as we develop and foster community engagement, creative problem solving, and applied learning opportunities for women entrepreneurs across the continent. Our digital-first, collaborative learning model continues to transform the lives and businesses of more than 1000 women, whose stories you can read about in our most recent annual report.

Over the past five years, our community has embodied the belief that #ShePowersAfrica and with your support, we can continue to equip African women entrepreneurs with the critical business skills and networks of support that build resilient and sustainable businesses. Today, we are calling on our community to support the resilience of women entrepreneurs from across the continent by participating in our end-of-year giving challenge. Your donation to AWEC goes directly to equipping hundreds of women entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills, and networks they need to grow, sustain, and scale their businesses AND every dollar donated will be matched by a generous donor. Double your impact and help us reach our goal today!
