Detroit Metro & Oakland Chapter Competitions

For almost 40 years MATHCOUNTS has provided enriching, extracurricular opportunities to students and free, high-quality resources to educators. Every child is unique, but we believe all children are capable of seeing the beauty and joy of math, whether they come to us already passionate about math, or intimidated by it.

There are many paths to math. We work to ensure that all students discover theirs.

MATHCOUNTS stimulates student interest by making math achievement as challenging, exciting and prestigious as school sports. The Oakland and Detroit Metro Chapter MATHCOUNTS programs are funded and coordinated by volunteer members of the Detroit Metro Chapter of Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE).

                                  2024 Competitions

Detroit Metro

The University of Michigan - Dearborn's Fairlane Center will be the site of stiff mathematical competition on Saturday, February 17th.  The 42 talented students from 4 schools in Wayne County will be ready to take on each other in the quest for a spot at the State Competition. The UM-Dearborn Theta Tau Chapter will once again assist in the competition program.

Oakland Chapter

Saturday, February 10th, approximately 136 students representing 18 Oakland County schools will square off at Oakland University's Engineering Center. They are vying for a spot at the State competition to be held March 23rd at Michigan State University.  Along with the Detroit Metro Competition, this is one of the most competitive  Chapters in the state.  The winners here have been in the hunt for the State Championship on an annual basis.
