The San Bernardino Community Scholarship Association (SBCSA) was founded in 1958 by Elizabeth Dimmock and Elsie Gibbs. Elizabeth Dimmock served as a Vice Principal at San Bernardino High School and Elsie Gibbs served as the Superintendent of Education of the San Bernardino City Unified School District. The ladies wanted to enable potential donors to establish scholarships either in memory of a friend or family member to benefit students who attend our high schools.
Over the years the number of donors has grown from ten to sixty-five. In 1960, the Association was established as a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible organization. It is governed by a volunteer President, Treasurer, and Board of Directors comprised of community members. In 1989, the Lyman-Rich Scholarship was established, and the funds of the Association were professionally invested. This has allowed the Association to award annual scholarships to students at every high school in the district.
The San Bernardino Community Scholarship Association has created a unique platform for donors to give back to their community and provide hope and opportunity for the upcoming generation. You may donate to any one or more of our existing scholarships or establish a new scholarship.
If you wish to establish a new scholarship or participate as a volunteer, contact the San Bernardino Community Scholarship Association at sbcsa@sbcusd.k12.ca.us.
