THE MENDED HEARTS, INC. (MHI) is the world’s largest peer-to-peer cardiovascular patient support network with over 104,000 members residing in 20 countries. Founded in 1951 and incorporated in 1955,  MHI’s mission is “to inspire hope and improve the quality of life of heart patients and their families through ongoing peer-to-peer support, education, and advocacy.”  Our 501(c)(3) non-profit is the USA’s second oldest non-profit support organization.  For over 72 years, MHI has been offering hope, support, and encouragement to patients and families of all ages – from pre-natal diagnosis throughout the lifespan.  We also offer our services to heart patients with many related diseases, such as stroke, diabetes, obesity, cancers, sleep apnea, kidney disease, and depression.

MHI’s three programs — Mended Little Hearts®, Young Mended Hearts®, and Mended Hearts® — make MHI the only organization in the world that supports patients with all forms of cardiovascular disease throughout a patient’s entire lifespan.  MHI volunteers inspire, educate, and empower nearly 400,000 patients and family members each year through a robust network of members who provide services and outreach in hospitals, cardiology offices, clinics, cardiac rehab centers and local communities. Another 4+ million reach MHI each year through our social media channels and web pages.   MHI members don’t simply tell patients and families about the heart disease journey, they show them and walk with them on that journey.

Not only does MHI provide peer support, but it is also a trusted provider of patient education and resources. These resources have empowered patients and caregivers by not only educating them about heart disease, but about how to live with, and often thrive with, heart disease. MHI provides education via its Heartguide® patient and parent resource guides (print and digital in English, Spanish, and Hebrew), interactive GoToGuides, trifold discussion guides, videos, webinars, and through regional meetings and educational conferences. MHI’s programs effectively educate patients and their families about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of many forms of heart disease and about recovery from heart disease. These programs are cutting-edge, and patients, caregivers and family members receive the latest information about treatment options, medications, and care. Because MHI is focused on the patient and family and all educational resources include their input, this education is more effective and even life-changing.

Mended Little Hearts' Bravery Bag program reaches over 5,000 hospitalized children and their families each year with a bag of comfort and support items that the family may find useful. Items like shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrush, as well as a stuffed animal and toys for the child. These Bravery Bags are so much more than a "bag of stuff". They are a critical connection to others who have "been there" during a time that can feel so lonely and isolating.
