Healthy Communities Coalition

Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC) envisions diverse stakeholders working together to transform communities through best practices and community-driven research. Health disparities, or blaring differences in one’s state of health, have immobilized generations of targeted populations in America based on distinct social and economic disadvantages, including sex, income, education, race, ethnicity, and geographic location. Our mission is to decrease health disparities and improve community health through outreach programs, collaborative planning, capacity building, research, and support.  

Grassroots, community- and faith-based organizations traditionally operate on limited capacity. These partners are invaluable resources uniquely positioned to bear a positive impact on the community’s health. Leaders understand the community’s culture and possess the ability to connect with local members to usher in change, introduce new concepts, and influence behaviors. Trusted partners can mitigate a history of tension and distrust between an academic institution and its neighboring communities.     

HCC works diligently to increase the capacity of community- and faith-based partners through program design and organizational development and support, preparing organizations to promote healthier outcomes through community-engaged research.
