Climb for Cindy

Fighting Triple Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer is like climbing a tall mountain. I was determined to help in that fight, by doing just that... climbing a tall mountain.  In fact, the tallest mountain in the contiguous US… 14,505’ Mt. Whitney. 

But I need your help--not for the climb--but to support research to find treatments and a cure for Triple Negative.

In May of 2006, my late wife, Cindy, was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, a subtype that represents just 15% of breast cancers. Unfortunately, none of the relatively new and potent targeted therapies to fight BC are effective against Triple Negative. After just 3 years, Cindy lost her battle against this disease.

In 2007 Cindy and my family established a fund at Johns Hopkins to support research for treatments and a cure. Even though she did not expect new treatments to be developed quickly enough to benefit her, Cindy wanted to help those that would come after her.  Since 2007, with the help of almost 300 donors, we have funded more than $500,000 in breast cancer research at Johns Hopkins.  

Progress is being made--in the cutting edge areas of personalized molecular profiling of BC tumors, understanding the process of metastasis and how to short circuit it, mechanisms of resistance to treatment in TN, new treatments to harness the immune system to fight TN, and gene therapy to cure TN using nano-biotechnology.  (If you would like to see the December 2015 research update, scroll through the pictures above, or email us and we'll send you a pdf.)

But the researchers haven’t reached the mountaintop yet, and they still need our support. 

To honor Cindy’s memory and to raise funds to continue research to treat and cure Triple Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer, on August 1st, 2016, I climbed Mt. Whitney.  Now I am asking for your support.
