For over a century, the Society of Arts and Crafts has been committed to our dual mission: to encourage the creation, collection, and promotion of the work of contemporary craft artists and to advance public appreciation of fine craft.

We are in the midst of a transformative move to a new home in the Seaport District, which will triple our operating space and allow us to fulfill our mission with increased vigor. Our move to 100 Pier 4 is about so much more than brick and mortar. It is about the fundamental function we serve within the craft community and the community at large, and how this function can be transformed and expanded by the physical space we occupy.

Our plans include:

  • A multi-purpose room for lectures, workshops, and artist professional development.
  • Larger exhibition and retail space, providing makers with increased commerce opportunities.
  • A new brand to reflect our revitalized vision and to captivate the next generation of craft enthusiasts and artists.
  • A craft library filled with important historical references and inspiring art text.
  • Outdoor programming,to introduce passers-by to contemporary craft.
  • Hands-on activities to help visitors appreciate the processes behind a wide range of craft objects.
  • Development of an Artist in Residence program.

The $250,000 Matching Grant from the Windgate Foundation will provide the Society with the much-needed funding to accomplish these goals. With your help, this amount will double to $500,000. Every dollar makes a critical difference!
