Zane Knapp's Montessori Model United Nations Team

Zane and 29 other students from Virginia Shuman Young Elementary will be broken into groups and assigned various countries. Throughout the entire school year, the students will learn about the importance of the United Nations in our world, how it functions and how it impacts global policty and evolution. They will also delve deep into the issues facing their assigned country. One of those issues will be chosen in order to come up with an inovative solution that perhaps the country has yet to discover.

The year long study culminates with a trip to NYC where the students will visit the UN, meet with the delegates from their assigned country, and should their solution be something that speaks to the delegates, the students will then have the opportunity to present that solution to the UN General Assembly. Yes, you read that correctly.

In all my years of travel, the UN has been one of my most treasured locations. I am in tearful awe walking through the hallways and entering the assembly halls just knowing what this organization is up to, in the biggest way on an international stage. It blows my mind and hear every time.

We are thrilled, beyond words, that Zane and his classmates will not only have the opportunity to experience this first hand, but to also have the opportunity to truly effect change. We all know what's possible when we create from pure hearts and minds.
