"My name is Ziggy, and I recently visited the GLBT Historical Society’s archives with the Queer Ancestors Project, an organization that helps to forge relationships between LGBTQ youth and our ancestors.

Encountering Sylvester was one of the first times I have felt seen and understood as a queer, nonbinary Black person.

Right now, people are trying hard to erase queer and trans communities, and make it impossible for us to connect to our history. Visiting the archives brought me to tears because I saw tangible proof that we have always been here – proof that people like me have always found ways of finding love.

I am so grateful that I got to visit the GLBT Historical Society, and for all the people whose contributions made this life changing encounter possible."
