Support for Santiago's Family

Santiago Baten-Oxlaj died of complications from COVID-19 after being unjustly detained at Stewart Detention Center in southwest Georgia, where he was awaiting voluntary departure. He left behind his wife and three children as well as other family members and friends who loved him. El Refugio will give any gifts received here directly to Santiago's wife, with whom we are in close contact. She has shared with us that she is very moved by the outpouring of love from people who did not know Santiago but believe he deserved freedom, not detention in the midst of a pandemic.
