Elmira's Wildlife Sanctuary Giving Tuesday 2022

Ever wonder what life is like living with large exotic animals? It's fun, rewarding, hot, difficult and expensive. Like everyone else in 2022, Elmira's has been dealing with price increases for just about everything.  Unlike most other households, we have also been hit with higher than normal veterinary expenses and the loss of our main meat suppliers - and their great prices along with them.

Hurricane Ian also had a major impact on us. We lost power for over a week which meant no water and our walk in freezer was off. We lost both meat and produce for the animals. Our volunteers were kind enough to fill jugs of water at home and bring them to the sanctuary so the animals would have water. They also took home laundry and dishes.

We do not want to have to deal with this in the future. In addition to help with food and veterinary costs, we also need help to purchase a generator that can be wired into our electrical grid. Not only did we not have water and the freezer, we spent an exorbitant amount of money on gas to run several portable generators so we could have refrigeration.

But the animals were fine and so were our volunteers. And while we are back to normal and everyone is having fun again, we still have to deal with these increased expenses. We are eternally grateful for your support on this Giving Tuesday. Visit! Donate! Volunteer!
