We your help, we are making a difference in Chateau.
The recent natural disaster has caused major setback in our effort to help the development of the Chateau region in the south part of Haiti.
As you know, the hurricane Mathew has destroyed most of the houses, leaving a lot of families homeless. It damaged the whole electrical system that helped pump the water at an altitude of over 2000 feet vertical. We lost all the solar panels.
We moved into action immediately after the hurricane.
We had to redo the whole system by securing new solar panels in a metallic frame that cannot be damaged by future hurricane. In order to protect the system, the electrical wires connecting the pumps and the energy source had to be placed 3 feet underground over a length of over 3500 feet through the mountains. With the new system, we can use a backup generator to pump the water in case bad weather and lack of sun. This way, we can assure regular water distribution to the community without interruption. I am thrilled to report that the community of Chateau are enjoying again safe drinking water, thanks to your help.
We have rehabilitated 17 houses so far, by buying the materials and paying the contractors to place new roofs on the houses. It costs an average of $ 400 per house. Many more houses need new roofs. During our visit to Chateau last January, we were approached by several families begging for help to rehabilitate their homes. Unfortunately, we are out of funds.
