The Ucayali region of Peru is experiencing the worst flooding in 29 years – and it is still raining. Thousands of families are affected by river levels that are increasing by as much as 6000 cubic meters per second. Flooding is a normal annual occurrence in many Shipibo villages, but this year the flooding is more extreme than people have witnessed in almost three decades.

Many families are displaced. The start of the school year, programmed for mid-March, has been pushed back until at least mid-April, further affecting an already vulnerable academic population of young students. Crops are flooded. Colder temperatures particularly affect the very young and the very old.

The Association of Onanyabo - Shipibo-Konibo Ancestral Doctors (ASOMASHK) and Oni Xobo are joining forces to ensure that support reaches where it is needed, for immediate relief and for the recuperation process once the water goes down.

By working with our partners ASOMASHK and Oni Xobo, the IMC Fund is able to direct support to on-the-ground efforts through trusted organizations. We can't reach everyone, but we can ensure that resources get distributed in the most equitable way possible.
