My Story

In the U.S., about 38% of food goes uneaten, wasting precious resources, labor, and producing harmful climate emissions. At the same time, 1 in 3 Denverites—over 300,000 neighbors—struggles to access consistent, nutritious meals.

At Denver Food Rescue (DFR), we bridge this gap. Through our innovative 'food recovery model,' we partner with grocery stores, food retailers, and community leaders to rescue fresh, surplus food (often by e-bike!) and deliver it directly to 21 No Cost Grocery Programs (NCGPs). These programs are led by and for the community, offering culturally relevant, high-nutrient foods like fresh produce and perishables.

  • Working at Denver Food Rescue I have gotten the unique opportunity to have a direct positive impact on my community. Every day, I can help make sure that people have access to a balanced diet and food dignity. The work that Denver Food does ensures that everyone has a chance to eat quality nutritious meals, and more importantly, meals they actually like.
  • I have seen the community come together over food at our No Cost Grocery Programs. Share recipes with those who may have never cooked a squash before and had no clue what to do. Food is culture, and through our programs we see that culture shared.
  • When people have access to quality balanced meals, they are more able to focus on work or school, and on getting their other needs met.
  • With your donation, DFR can continue their important work in food recovery and fighting climate change.

Thank you for your dedication to our mission! Together, we are making a difference for our neighbors and our city.
