"RBO is a place where you have a chance to romanticize about overcoming a seemingly impossible challenge. Pushing yourself to the limit and proving to yourself that nothing is impossible." Christus, 2022 Scholarship Recipient
Once more this fundraising is dedicated towards Running for a Better Oakland ( www.rboakland.org) Senior Scholarship fund. This will be the 7th year that RBO will award scholarships to its dedicated, committed, persevering, resilient and fun High school Seniors who are training at no cost to participate in local running races. Some started while in Middle School , many were referred by a friend, a teacher or a sibling.
Since 2020, the Scholarship program has been 100% funded by YOU!!! Thanks to your incredible generosity, not only the scholarship program has grown but also RBO was able to make and end of the season gift to its Alumni who came back to the program to volunteer as run mentors. Since its creation in 2017, 46 seniors and 11 Alumni were awarded a scholarship. By now, several have graduated from College or completed their service with the Military. Last year, 9 seniors received a scholarship ( total $21,800) and 4 alumni were presented with a gift ($2,800).
I hope that this year will see an ENCORE, as we have 9 seniors who applied to the scholarship program and we have a few alumni who are involved with RBO.
Be assured that any level of support will make a huge difference for our students! Merci beaucoup!
Running for a Better Oakland (RBO, www.rboakland.org) is a non-profit organization that encourages Kindergarten-12th grade students mostly from Oakland to develop healthy lifestyles through running. By building confidence, setting goals, providing training and encouragement, RBO gives students the values for achievement and hard work that they can draw on for all areas of their lives. RBO aims to remove financial barriers for students’ participation and ensure that program participants reflect the diverse community of Oakland.
