This is my daughter, Brittany Ysasaga. She was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 8. We have been on a roller coaster ever since. She has been on all different kinds of medicines to see which were the best to help control her seizures. She does well and then we are hit with multiple seizures at a time. Her schooling has been affected as well as her daily life as a normal teenager. Last April, she had surgery to have a VNS implant placed to help control the seizures. As there is nothing that can make her seizures stop or go away completely, the implant and current medications do help. Doctors say she can outgrow the seizures but that is a big maybe because not everyone does. So we recently applied for her to get the help of a service dog and excitedly she was approved! I know how good this will be for her to have that companion there for her, not only for her when she is going to seize but emotionally it will be good for her too. As a service dog takes lots of training and lots of needs to learn the signs of seizures, the cost is definitely a challenge. So if you can help in any way, we would greatly be thankful!
