The Womanist Working Collective is a radical grassroots social action and support collective for Black folks of marginalized gender experience, specifically women (trans* and cis), femmes, and all gender expansive folx. Our Community of Practice unapologetically centers our Quality of Life and livelihoods through Community Organizing, Mutual Aid and Holistic Wellness.

Request

Your support will help to hire a part-time Co-organizer for our Community Organizing projects and to coordinate our membership body. Projects include the 2Ubuntu: Reciprocity Time Bank, Womxnist Liberation Co-op and a Self-Defense Club.

Can you share a story of one of the leaders in your organization and how they’ve made a difference in their community?

"I'd like to highlight our Co-organizer of Holistic Wellness, Okichie Davis, LPC, NCC. Okichie is a queer, Black woman (they/them) of West Indian heritage and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Philadelphia, PA. Raised in New York City and schooled in New England, they are an alumna of Villanova University, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities and a Master of Science degree in Counseling with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health.

They've been successfully leading our Black Liberation Therapy Fund Mutual Aid and Annual Healers & Helpers: Therapy Matchmaking event for the past 3 years. But that's not all, outside of this community work, seeing a greater need than WWC could ever meet, they launched the Hibiscus Rose Therapy Fund, which functions to offset the cost of therapy for Black queer +/ trans folks who have very limited income through their therapy practice Endeavoring Wellness. Endeavoring Wellness is a Queer, Black woman-owned therapy practice and wellness resource that strives to provide compassionate and accessible support to individuals and organizations."

You can support the Hibiscus Rose Therapy Fund directly at this link. Your support will help provide therapy scholarships for Black queer +/ trans folks who are low-income.
