Grassroots Fundraiser for:

No Exceptions!

Mission

No Exceptions Prison Collective is a grassroots initiative in Nashville, TN, dedicated to ending carceral enslavement by advocating that no exceptions be made to the abolition of slavery. We were founded and are led by individuals directly impacted by carceral slavery – both insiders (prisoners) and free world folk.

No Exceptions has received a Community Organizing Grant from the Peace Development Fund and all of the money raised from this fundraiser will be added to that grant to help support their organizing in 2022.  Give today to support No Exceptions!

"Your support will help to fund our life sentence reform grassroots campaign which is driven by insiders, their families, and family members of homicide victims who support reform. Coalition members both inside and outside of the prisons are involved in developing legislative strategies and building a platform to educate the public about the necessity for life sentence reform. Grassroots legislative organizing which centers on directly impacted people at every level is new to Tennessee and challenges the way bills are created and passed.

It also supports our efforts to build a statewide network of former insiders, family members, survivors, faith organizations, community organizations, and students. Our goal is to build a power base of people in rural and urban areas who are directly impacted by the prison industrial complex and the criminal legal system. We believe the constitutional amendment can become a vehicle that can unite these constituencies and build a base that can be mobilized and activated to challenge entrenched systems of oppression in Tennessee long after the constitutional amendment is passed."

Can you share a story of one of the leaders in your organization and how they’ve made a difference in their community?

“Theeda Murphy and Jeannie Alexander are the co-directors of No Exceptions Prison Collective. Together they have created community with insiders, formerly incarcerated people and their families and advocates on the outside and taken action against CoreCivic which led to the dissolution of its decades-long contract to manage a facility at the Metro Nashville/Davidson County jail. This community has also been successful in pushing for an amendment to the Tennessee state constitution providing for universal abolition and removing the exception which enslaves people who have been convicted of a crime. It will be on the state ballot in November 2022. We continue to fight for life sentence reform and for the improvement of conditions for our friends and loved ones who are caged in prisons. Please help us continue our work by contributing to our efforts.”
