We're thrilled to announce we've hit our goal of raising $1,000 in this campaign!

With just a few days left, we've decided to push to try and reach a higher goal. Will you help us get there?

Grassroots Fundraiser for:

New Britain Racial Justice Coalition

Mission

The New Britain Racial Justice Coalition (NBRJC) is a grassroots organization based in New Britain, Connecticut. We are committed to fighting for racial and economic justice through community organizing, political education and mutual aid.

New Britain Racial Justice Coalition has received a Community Organizing Grant from the Peace Development Fund and all of the money raised from this fundraiser will be added to that grant to help support their organizing in 2022.  Give today to support NBRJC!

Request

We are requesting these funds to help support our criminal justice reform organizing and our education budget organizing. In terms of criminal justice, we are continuing our Alternatives to Incarceration campaign. We are training and mobilizing justice impacted organizers (those currently or formerly incarcerated) to advocate for the end to mass incarceration and invest in alternatives. Our education organizing has us organizing low-income families in New Britain who have students in the public school system to call for an increase to the local education budget. We will be working with city coalition partners to train local organizers to canvas and engage their fellow residents on these pertinent issues.

Can you share a story of one of the leaders in your organization and how they’ve made a difference in their community?

"One of our members in NBRJC, Candyce Scott, is an Indigenous Black woman who led us in our fight against the Columbus statue. She then went on to become the first Black woman to hold the position of Board of Assessments and Appeals Elected Official in New Britain. Currently, she is organizing working-class residents against unfair billing from the municipal water department that, if gone unpaid, can cause them to lose their homes."

New Britain Racial Justice Coalition is a participant in Grassroots Funding Week, a week-long crowdfunding campaign that supports several social justice organizations from across the country.
