Fountain Heights Farm
Mission
The mission of Fountain Heights Farms is to improve the quality of life for the current residents of the historic Fountain Heights community of Birmingham, Alabama. Our approach includes 1) Food and Urban Farming, 2) BIPOC land ownership and land justice, 3) Opportunities for Self-guided employment and entrepreneurship, and 4) Culturally inclusive & responsive education for us by us.
Fountain Heights Farm has received a Community Organizing Grant from the Peace Development Fund and all of the money raised from this fundraiser will be added to that grant to help support their organizing in 2022.

In 2021 we grew to four neighborhood-based farm spaces, built an aquaponics learning center, have distributed 10,802+ pounds of food free to the community valued at $32,406, provided neighborhood employment, hosted twelve in-person and virtual workshops, trained three burgeoning urban farmers, and provided education to residents regarding land access and land retention.
Your support will help to fund our organizing work and our work educating ourselves and our neighbors to retain and reclaim land lost as a result of poverty and exploitation. We are working to build capacity and funds for land retention initiatives, training, support efforts, and to hold land in a land trust as a means to slow BIPOC land loss.
Can you share a story of one of the leaders in your organization and how they’ve made a difference in their community?
"When I think of Fountain Heights Farm, I think of it as a magical place. The first place in Birmingham where I felt seen, heard and loved for all my parts. A place where I can be my very black, very queer, very autistic, very sing songy self. A place where #wealleat A place that helps feed a community." - Zariya Williams, Urban Farmer.
