Grassroots Fundraiser for:

Comunidades Enraizadas Community Land Trust

Mission

To obtain and permanently secure land for the use and benefit of the community so that low-income people, regardless of immigration status, can achieve long-term housing stability and be stewards of the land. We support housing that is resident-controlled and affordable–including coops, homeownership and rentals–and other land uses that further our goal of rooting the community and ending displacement

Comunidades Enraizadas Community Land Trust has received a Community Organizing Grant from the Peace Development Fund and all of the money raised from this fundraiser will be added to that grant to help support their organizing in 2022.  Give today to support Comunidades Enraizadas Community Land Trust!

As a newly founded nonprofit, we are focusing on organizing and growing our base. The education and outreach committee, run entirely by immigrant women who are Spanish speaking, is currently preparing to launch Comunidades Enraizadas publicly in the new year. We will be creating flyers, door-knocking, reaching out to neighbors and community groups and hosting public meetings to spread the word and grow our membership. The group aims to reach multiple audiences including other residents as well as those in positions of power, while always prioritizing immigrants and low-income residents.

Can you share a story of one of the leaders in your organization and how they’ve made a difference in their community?

We want to share the story of our leaders collectively! Comunidades Enraizadas Community Land Trust is the fruit of years of organizing by a group of primarily Latinx immigrant activists to create stable and dignified housing opportunities for low-income residents in the face of rising rents and increasing displacement.  This group of powerful women created a vision of shared land ownership and long-term housing stability for Chelsea residents and, with the support of GreenRoots and many others, has turned that vision into a new nonprofit in Chelsea. We are already exploring several possibilities for land acquisition.  ¡Si se puede!
