Help us raise $5,000 for Yonder, our award-winning imprint of children’s literature in translation, by October.

This year has been one of huge challenges for everyone. For Restless, 2020 has brought cancelled author tours and the loss of in-person fundraising events this fall, among other challenges—even as it’s deepened our conviction that we need books that cross borders more than ever. We’re asking for your support to help us continue publishing excellent children’s books from all corners of the globe.

One of the very few American imprints that focuses on global literature for all young people, from early readers to young adults, Yonder books offer kids from all backgrounds a chance to see themselves in the stories they read, to put themselves in the shoes of others, and to experience new places and cultures wherever they are. We’re thrilled about our 2021 Yonder lineup, with extraordinary women writers and illustrators from South Korea, Japan, Sweden, and beyond. Your tax-deductible gift will help us bring these books to English-reading young people everywhere.

Highlights from Yonder

From the dung-beetle to the blue whale, no creature is too humble or huge for Finnish author and illustrator duo Laura Merz and Aino Järvinen in 1,001 Creatures, a gorgeously illustrated, interactive exploration of the natural world that's "both a work of art and a great first encyclopedia for the youngest animal lovers" (World Kid Lit).

An entrancing adventure for today’s troubled planet, The Casket of Time is a fantastical tale of time travel and environmental calamity from celebrated Icelandic author Andri Snær Magnason.

A touching and profound tale of friendship, differences, and acceptance from renowned Estonian children’s author and illustrator Piret Raud.

A one-of-a-kind, uplifting picture book about a Jewish boy and a Palestinian boy who bond on the soccer field that shows us that different cultures, religions, societies, and languages can all share the same page.

An unforgettable adventure story about books, libraries, and the power of reading, The Wild Book is the young readers’ debut by beloved, prize-winning Mexican author Juan Villoro. It has sold over one million copies in Spanish.

"The idea for a children’s imprint arose through a desire to further diversify the voices within America’s body of literature. If readers become comfortable with reading books from other cultures at a young age, they may carry that comfort with them as they age into other books, Stavans thought.... [Stavans] rejects the notion that children are unwilling to open themselves to stories that represent other cultures, voices, and experiences. In America’s publishing world—particularly when it comes to children’s books—he believes that there is “a needlessly protective approach. It’s time we become less protective."
