If it's summer, it must be progress time at the Stone House.
A quick summary to date, 7/31/17, the foundation has been dug, foundation poured, foundation waterproofed, drainage pipes laid and the back filling has started. Sometime in the next two weeks, the school will be moved onto its new foundation!
Belchertown Historical Association is charged with maintaining the Stone House Museum and property. This includes the 1827 field stone Federalist Colonial home, a field stone barn donated by Henry Ford and the Blackmer building, the original home of the Belchertown Sentinel. The museum is open for tours Saturdays, 2 - 5, from mid May to mid October. There is an off season lecture series, free and open to the public as well as a number of special events such as Living History Day. We are very fortunate to be receiving the Washington District School this spring. It is the last one room school house in Belchertown. It will be moving to the Stone House grounds in April. Not surprisingly, the cost of moving the school from south Belchertown to the Stone House property, the new foundation and the extensive renovations required to preserve the school and maintain it will require [several hundred thousand dollars?] As we venture into this major project, we will really appreciate whatever you can contribute to this capital campaign.
