It’s time to cheer on your favorite slothlete as the 2024 Sloth Ironman Games kick off. This year’s Games will once again feature a thrilling series of 4-part challenges designed to enrich and entertain our beloved sloths—and yes, the fastest sloth wins! But there's more to this event than just friendly competition.
All donations made during the Sloth Ironman Games will directly support each sloth’s journey toward release into the wild through our important Saving Sloths Together program. Be sure to follow our social media channels for updates and behind-the-scenes looks leading up to each event!

Get ready for the most sloooowly exciting event of the year—the 2024 Sloth Ironman Games Series! Watch as your favorite slothletes take on a 4-part challenge of fun and enriching activities, all leading up to one epic question: Who will be the fastest sloth to claim the gold?!
This year, we’re celebrating 9 years of sloth-tacular competition with a fundraising goal of $10,000 to support our rescued sloths. Every donation goes directly toward their rewilding journey through Toucan Rescue Ranch’s Saving Sloths Together Program. Your support helps provide medical care, nutritious diets, enrichment activities, enclosure improvements, emergency treatments, and so much more!

- October 20: Sloth Athlete Reveal
- October 21: 1-Meter Dash
- October 22: Hibiscus Eat-Off
- October 22 AT 5 PM: Half-Time Show - Featuring the three-fingered sloth
- October 23: Strong Sloth Competition
- October 24: Poop-Off Challenge

The Sloth Ironman Games is an annual event hosted by Toucan Rescue Ranch to create an initiative for people to get involved with sloth conservation efforts. The Games are a sloth enrichment game series for four carefully selected athlete sloths (slothletes). The Games will consist of various challenges that the sloth needs to complete. Progress will be shown after each challenge is completed. The Games is a noninvasive campaign that records the sloths doing normal behaviors such as using the bathroom, eating, and climbing.
The champion will be announced on October 25, and donations close on October 25 at noon! All donations for your favorite sloth athlete will benefit the Saving Sloths Together program, which will return to the overall care of all the sloths in this rewilding program.
SLOTH IRONMAN GAME RULES:
- You must make a minimum donation of $5.00 to earn your favorite sloth athlete points. Each donated dollar is an extra point towards your chosen slothlete.
- All donations must be made here on the official MightyCause fundraiser page.
- When donating for your athlete, you must DEDICATE the donation in their name (e.g., Pax) at donation checkout so that it is correctly recorded to your slothlete.
SLOTH IRONMAN POINT-SYSTEM:
Each dollar raised for a slothlete will be 1 point added to its score. $5.00 would be an additional 5 points to your favorite slothlete!
Each event that is won by a sloth athlete:
- 100 points for 1st place
- 75 points for 2nd place
- 50 points for 3rd pace
- 25 points for 4th place
- 0 points for disqualification (DQ)

In 2017, two of Costa Rica’s leading wildlife organizations—Toucan Rescue Ranch and The Sloth Institute Costa Rica—joined forces to create Saving Sloths Together (SST). This groundbreaking initiative is designed to give sloths in need a real chance at freedom. By combining our expertise in rescue, rehabilitation, and rewilding, we’ve built the most comprehensive program for sloth conservation in Costa Rica.
Through this powerful alliance, we leverage scientific research, hands-on care, and decades of experience to ensure every sloth gets a second chance at life in the wild. But we can’t do it alone. Your donation helps provide medical care, specialized diets, enrichment, and the safe enclosures these sloths need to thrive. Together, we can give them the freedom they deserve.
Why Do Sloths Need Your Help?
Sloths face numerous threats that put their lives at risk. At Toucan Rescue Ranch, we see firsthand the dangers they encounter daily, from electrocutions on powerlines and car accidents to dog attacks and habitat loss due to deforestation. Tragically, many of the sloths we rescue are orphaned babies found abandoned after their mothers are injured or killed.
That’s where the Saving Sloths Together (SST) program comes in! We rescue injured sloths, provide medical care, and prepare them for rewilding through our Sloth Schooling program. What sets SST apart is our ability to successfully rewild orphaned sloths, giving them a chance to live freely in their natural habitat.
By supporting our program, you’re helping not just individual sloths, but contributing to the preservation of a vital species.
