On December 20th, 2021 at around 3:00 AM, Chengyan Wang, a lead waiter at Shanghai Taste, was cleaning the restaurant in Las Vegas' Shanghai Plaza. A man entered through the back door and attempted to burglarize the business. Wang, defending himself and the restaurant, intervened and was shot multiple times. He was taken in critical condition to the UMC Trauma Center. He is currently recovering and is in stable condition.
This attack on a member of our community was senseless and vicious. We are heartbroken and angry that this attack happened in the heart of our home at Shanghai Plaza.
Our team alongside the Asian Chamber of Commerce, Bamboo Bridges and other community partners offered assistance with translation for the restaurant owner and staff as well as Las Vegas Metro Police Department during this time of need.
The Asian Community Development Council will match up to $5,000 to reach the goal of $12,000 to help out with Chengyan Wang's recovery fund and to support his family during this time. This is a separate campaign from the GoFundMe and 100% of proceeds will be given to Chengyan Wang and his family. As ACDC is a 501(c)3, your donation to his recovery fund is tax-deductible. This fundraiser will end on December 31st, 2021.
