The Sanford Backpack Program is an initiative of Strategies for a Stronger Sanford (a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization) and it partners with the Sanford School District to provide youth that are fighting food insecurity with backpacks full of child friendly, nutritionally dense food on Fridays each week.
If not for the Sanford Backpack Program, many of these youth would not know where their meals would come from over the weekend and they would arrive at school Monday morning too focused on their hungry bellies to engage in learning.
The program is administered by Sanford Schools’ teachers, guidance counselors, school nurses, and principals.
Parent and community volunteers assist with donation coordination.
It is supported by the community via donations of food items and money from Individuals, organizations, and local businesses.
Because of our strategic partnership with local food banks, your donation has a significant impact. For example, a $10 donation can help us provide a backpack filled with a weekend's worth of food to TWO children.
If you prefer to make a donation via mail checks can be written out to Strategies for a Stronger Sanford with a memo of "Backpack Program" and mailed to:
