I'm passionate about helping children in foster care because I was one of them. 

I was 10 years old when I was placed in foster care. I still remember the day I was taken away. I sat in my mother’s lap with my face pressed into the curve of her neck. Her skin was moist from my tears, and my quiet sobs competed with the Department of Children and Family conference room clock as it ticked away at the little time I had left in her arms. The caseworker jotted down notes on a notepad as she interrogated me about our life at home…. I remember being terrified. I remember trying to be brave. Everything else that day was a blur, and I was taken away for 8 years...

I often wonder… how different my childhood would have been had my case been referred to FFCR…

For more than 35 years, FFCR has clearly demonstrated its expertise, impact, and unyielding commitment to do whatever it takes to transform the lives of thousands of youth in care. Although it accomplishes so much with the resources it has, it is only able to serve about ¼ of the children in Miami’s foster care system due to limited financial resources. But – every one of the 2000+ children served by the system annually could benefit from FFCR's help because NOBODY in Miami-Dade County does the work that FFCR does. 

And though I was not served by FFCR while I was in care, I'm proud to serve on the board to help an organization that bridges the gap for its child welfare partners so an overtaxed system can do what it needs to without losing its humanity.
