I’m excited to share the success story of our first NWA Extra Mile graduate, Mercedes. Over the past 6 months our mantra of “become a master tracker” has become a regular practice. When I first met Mercedes, Freedom5:one played a crucial role in helping her secure an apartment after two years of homelessness. Through our coaching process, Mercedes has embraced the principals of money management and setting aside funds for upcoming bills. I still remember the moment she said, “I think I can save money this month for next month's bills.” I encouraged her, saying that these realizations are vital and demonstrate her growing capability in managing her finances effectively. Managing finances effectively can be a significant challenge for many individuals. NWA Extra Mile serves as a financial coaching resource specifically aimed at those facing difficult financial situations, specifically individuals living at or below 200% of the poverty level. (see chart) In fact, about 36.7% of residents in Arkansas fall below this income threshold.
What sets NWA Extra Mile apart is its unique financial incentive structure. Participants earn a small weekly stipend for their efforts, and throughout the 16-week program, they can receive $100 towards a financial goal on three separate occasions, contingent upon their continued participation and commitment to the work.
NWA Gives plays a crucial role in raising funds to engage with individuals within our target income bracket and to provide the necessary incentives for achieving financial stability. By creating a budget, eliminating debt, and building savings, participants can find hope and resilience even while managing limited incomes. These practices are not only vital for those facing financial hardship but are also essential for anyone looking to manage their finances effectively.
