We are currently working to fundraise for a service dog through 4 Paws for Ability for Harmony. The service dog would provide peace of mind in so many ways. Her dog would be trained to alert to her seizures, redirect her from potentially harmful activities, assist with stable mobility, as well as track her in the event of elopement.
To provide a little history, Harmony was born with a rare genetic disorder known as DHX30 and is one of approximately 40 patients world wide with the condition. However, as of February, she still the only person documented to have her exact mutation. With that being said that means that there is not any real information for what that means long term for her.
DHX30 is a neuro-developmental disorder characterized by severe motor impairment and absent language. Also known as NEDMIAL, it is caused by de novo missense mutations in the DHX30 gene.
Harmony has global developmental delays, intellectual disability, minimal (almost absent) speech, muscular hypotonia, ataxic gait, feeding difficulties (which have improved greatly with therapy), autistic features, sleep disturbances, joint hyper- mobility, and seizures. She is also an elopement risk and has no real understanding of danger.
Harmony is a super happy and loving bundle of energy. She is always ready to play with her 5 siblings and has a strong bond with her 3 year old brother who has Down Syndrome. She loves music, coloring, swimming, and bubbles.
Having a service dog would allow Harmony to become more independent. Knowing that there will be an extra set of eyes, and a few paws, on Harmony will provide peace of mind for our family in regards to her "free spirit". All funds received will be used in the process to prepare for and get Harmony's Service dog. The funds will cover her fundraising goal, preparing our other dogs (socialization and behavior training which cost 5800 for both through bulletproof training), supplies, as well as the cost of transportation and lodging during the process. Donations for everything, other than the $20,000 service dog fee, are also being excepted via Zelle at: HarmonysJourney23@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for all of your help in raising funds and awareness by spreading the word.
