ABOUT REBUILD
Darkness RISING's REBUILD program connects formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted people of color with culturally competent therapists of color. We carefully vet therapists, arrange appointments, and fund up to 10 therapy sessions. REBUILD fosters healing, empowerment, and supports successful reintegration into society.
This is a nationwide program, supported by community partners across the country.
Did you know? We provide therapy for:
- Children of formerly incarcerated individuals (Age 5+)
- Spouses/partners of formerly incarcerated individuals
- Justice-involved youth
OUR WHY
Prisons and jails disproportionately incarcerate people of color with histories of mental health issues. Every year, about 640,000 people return to our communities after serving time in federal or state prisons and 11.4 million people cycle through local jails. Unfortunately, mental health resources are lacking.
It is important that services provided to incarcerated individuals specifically target their individual needs. REBUILD covers the cost of up to 10 sessions of therapy, allowing justice-involved people of color to access these services for free.
BUDGET BREAKDOWN
As the program grows each year, the demand for therapy continues to rise. In response, we have increased our budget to support more formerly incarcerated community members.
$100,000 = 10 therapy sessions for 100 justice-involved people
$242,600 = REBUILD Staff, including 4 justice-involved Therapist Connectors, 1 justice-involved REBUILD Program Manager, 1 justice-involved Community Outreach Manager, REBUILD program Director. Accountant + Employee taxes
$25,200 = Monthly wellness stipend for REBUILD staff
$12,000 = Website management and maintenance for 12 months
$6,000 = Legal fees
TOTAL NEED FOR FY25 = $383,800
*All formerly incarcerated REBUILD staff members receive FREE therapy.
