#NoSeniorAlone For The Holidays

Today's the day! San Diego Gives Is Here! The clock is ticking, and the time to make a difference in the lives of senior orphans and isolated seniors here in San Diego is now.

We are well on our way to raising $20,000 in 24 hours! 

This is our chance to come together as a community across San Diego County from San Ysidro up to Oceanside and out to Borrego to ensure no senior in San Diego has to spend this holiday season alone...again.

What are “senior orphans”, everybody is at risk of becoming one. But the demographics that are at risk the most are the following:

• Older adults who are isolated
• Older adults estranged from siblings and family
• Single older adults with no children
• Single older adults with estranged children
• Childless couples
• Married couples with estranged children
• Single older adults with no or limited social circles and support group
• Older women without support

In other words, neither having children or being married will make us safe from becoming “elder orphans”. It’s dependent on how we build our relationships and ties with people who may be reliable support systems for us in the future.

In 2022, your support enabled us to award grants to 25 local senior centers and nonprofits with over $150,000 raised in total! 

 Touching the lives of over 5,000 older adults!

 Our partners at the Sahm Family Foundation have generously provided a $10,000 matching grant today to kick off our #NoSeniorAlone for the Holidays campaign.
 
 This means that for every dollar you contribute, they will match it up to $10,000, effectively doubling the impact of your donation! (Who doesn't like a two-for-one?)

San Diego has an estimated 130,000 senior orphans and they need your help.
 
 Your donation, no matter how big or small, will directly benefit seniors in our own neighborhoods. It's a chance to double your impact, give local, and ensure that no San Diego senior spends the holidays alone.
 
 The $20,000 will be gifted to Senior Centers to ensure senior orphans have a place to go and new people to celebrate the holidays with. The funds you donate will provide numerous holiday parties, dances, meals, crafts, bake-offs, excursions and more during the holiday season for these isolated older San Diegans.
 
 As a result of being connected to their local senior center, they will gain new friendships and be provided mental, financial, physical and emotional help all year long as they break the cycle of isolation.  For our overall #NoSeniorAlone Matching Holiday Challenge, we aspire to raise $250,000 to benefit twice as many seniors as we did last year (if not more). We will be accepting donations through Thanksgiving!
