Scholarship for 9 Hopeful RBO Seniors!

 Once more this fundraising is dedicated towards Running for a Better Oakland ( www.rboakland.org)   Senior Scholarship fund.  In the picture above , senior, Song Xi is crossing the finish line at the Kaiser 10K ( her time was actually faster!) with  the support of one of our wonderful coaches, Matthew. Their strides were perfectly matched which illustrates so nicely the connection RBO students  and Run Mentors/ Coaches establish during the long hours of training. Last year 11 RBO deserving seniors were incredibly blessed to received so much support from our RBO friends, YOU!!!! Since 2017, thanks to your generosity,   RBO has  proudly awards scholarships to 38 seniors and  7  alumni.

September 4, 2021 , RBO, joyfully resumes in person training after 23 Zoom practices session in Fall 2020-Winter-Spring 2021. Even more joyful is the fact  that 9 RBO seniors are participating in RBO practices and are applying to RBO scholarship program.  Some have been with RBO since 5th grade and some have joined more recently, but they are all very motivated to train  for either  the Oakland Running festival Half-marathon  or 10K or be a mentor with the younger students and help them cross the finish line of their race.  They are all  hopeful that when they will start college  they will be able to study in person and forge strong interaction with their classmates and teachers, something they have been deprived off during the last two years. 

Running for a Better Oakland (RBO, www.rboakland.org) is a non-profit organization that encourages Kindergarten-12th grade  students mostly from Oakland to develop healthy lifestyles through running.  By building confidence, setting goals, providing training and encouragement, RBO gives students the values for achievement and hard work that they can draw on for all areas of their lives. RBO aims to remove financial barriers for students’ participation and ensure that program participants reflect the diverse community of Oakland.
