Pregnant Pup Found as a Stray!

Peony arrived at a rural shelter as a stray and staff suspected she might be pregnant. She also was positive for heartworm disease. Both things that made staying at a shelter very difficult for her. We couldn't leave this sweet hound without a safe place to give birth in and someone to cover her lifesaving treatment. We jumped at the chance to bring her to Homeward Trails where she could settle into a foster home and prepare for her labor to begin.

But Peony had other ideas. When staff arrived at the shelter the morning she was scheduled to come to Homeward Trails, they found Peony nursing 3 tiny puppies. She looked proud, but exhausted. The new family is now safely set up in a foster home, but we still need help covering their expenses, especially Peony's heartworm treatment. She'll begin that as soon as her puppies are weaned.
