I am excited to share that I will be running the New York City Marathon this year! This is my fourth marathon but the first I will be running in the city I call home. As some may know, my passion for running is only comparable to the love I have for my career as a medical social worker. These two different parts of my life are symbiotic, and I have come to realize that I succeed in one by feeding the other. In my hospital role, I have the privilege of working with patients who have end-stage heart failure, often requiring heart transplants or other advanced therapies to survive. The perspective I have gained from working with this population has been incredibly impactful to me, personally and professionally. I feel even more gratitude for my health and ability to run, inspiring me to raise money for a cause I hold dear.
In hopes to bridge these two integral aspects of my life, I am dedicating my training to raising funds for Harboring Hearts, a NYC-based nonprofit that provides financial and emotional support to cardiac surgery and transplant patients when they need it most. I am incredibly grateful for Harboring Hearts, they are often the only cardiac-specific charity I can offer to help the patients I meet in need. I have seen time and time again the direct impact Harboring Hearts has on the lives of our patients and feel a strong desire to give back to this one-of-a-kind organization. The most recent example of their support is a collaborative effort with "Hearts for Russ," they donated 10 wifi-enabled tablets to heart failure patients who did not have a smartphone or wifi to allow them to meet with their team via telehealth and attend our virtual support groups.
Harboring Hearts has provided 1,600+ families and 7,450+ patients and caregivers with emergency support from housing to transportation to emotional support programming. They provide invaluable, tangible support outside of what a hospital can offer, and I am so incredibly grateful to have them bolster the care we aim to give patients during their time of need.
100% of the contributions I receive will go to support cardiac surgery and transplant patients of Harboring Hearts. Any donation means the world.
