Dear Friends and Family,
For the past ten years, Sarah and I have been dedicated to raising funds and supporting Challenge to Conquer Cancer (C3). This incredible organization has been a part of our family’s journey, offering hope, support, and vital resources to those affected by cancer.
Our involvement began in 2015 when Sarah’s mom, Pat, was selected as a Warrior for C3. Sadly, she passed away from ovarian cancer just a few months before the ride. A few years later, my mom, Nancy, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She fought bravely for several years before passing away in early 2023.
Pat and Nancy were remarkable women—strong, loving, and resilient. They never wanted sympathy, only strength and determination in the face of their diagnosis. We ride in their memory and for all those still fighting.
What is the Challenge to Conquer Cancer?
C3 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing cancer research and advocacy through fundraising fitness events. Since its founding in 2008, C3 has raised over $2 million, with recent years bringing in more than $100,000 annually. These funds support groundbreaking research, patient care, and survivorship programs.
The Ride: A Journey of Strength
Each year, the C3 cycling team embarks on a relay-style ride from Greenville, SC, to Lewiston, ME, to participate in the Dempsey Challenge. This year, we depart on Saturday, September 13, and arrive in Lewiston on Friday, September 19. The ride is demanding, but it pales in comparison to the fight that cancer patients endure every day.
Who Do the Funds Support?
C3 funds a variety of cancer-related programs, including:
The Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship (CIOS) in Greenville, SC – One of the nation’s first holistic cancer care centers, providing services like lung cancer screenings, smoking cessation, oncology rehabilitation, acupuncture, genetic counseling, nutrition support, yoga, massage, and music therapy.
Groundbreaking Cancer Research – Supporting studies aimed at preventing cancer. Research led by Dr. Gluck, backed by C3 funding, has contributed to advancements in patient care and helped earn a National Cancer Institute designation.
The Cancer Association of Anderson – A local cancer charity that provides financial assistance, information, and emotional support to Anderson County residents battling cancer.
The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing – Offering free support, education, and wellness services to individuals impacted by cancer.
The Heart of C3: The Warrior Program
At the core of C3 is the Warrior Program, which honors those currently battling cancer and survivors. Each year, Warriors are flown to the final destination to cheer on the riders, attend a celebration dinner, and participate in special weekend events. Meeting these incredible individuals has been one of the greatest honors of our involvement with C3.
