Cindy Hasty moved to Overton as an 8th grader in 1970. Overton has been her home ever since. In 2020, Cindy became interested in learning about the history of Overton when they sold the house her husband grew up in. After doing some research, it was discovered there were no books published on the history of Overton. In discussing this with the Overton librarian, Deb Weiland, the History of Overton Book project was born.
Gathering historic documentation, compiling stories, and building a history for all to know and understand has turned into an extensive project. Continued efforts to finalize the History of Overton Book are ongoing. The estimated completion of the book is Winter 2026.
Overton Area History Book is excited to be a part of Give BIG Overton and appreciates any donation, be it monetary or personal. Donations will be used to help offset the printing costs, making it affordable to all. Photos are an extra expense in printing, and the book will be brought to life with community and family photos.
**Funds from the book will go back to the Overton community and the Dawson County Museum, which has helped with research.**
