Many South Pacific parrot species are threatened with extinction in the wild.
The New Zealand Parrot Trust is a registered charity set up to continue the work of the World Parrot Trust in New Zealand and the South Pacific. Your gift will help support our current programs, with a focus on:
The Kākāpō
The Kākāpō is a nocturnal, flightless parrot. It is critically endangered and one of New Zealand’s unique treasures. With fewer than 201 Kākāpō alive today, the species faces major challenges due to infertility and inbreeding. The NZ Parrot Trust is aiding the Kākāpō Recovery by providing funding to Department of Conservation (DOC).
The Kea
The world’s only mountain parrot, only a few thousand Kea remain in the wild. The nationally endangered species face challenges from persecution and predation. The NZ Parrot Trust is aiding the Kea Conservation Trust by providing funding to the organisation.
The Tasman Parakeet
With an estimated 300-450 remaining in the wild, the Tasman Parakeet is one of the rarest parrot species in the South Pacific, and exists solely at the Norfolk Island National Park in Australia. The NZ Parrot Trust is aiding the Tasman Parkeet through nest-intervention programs and developing reintroduction strategies.
Your gift today will help make a real difference in the lives of these feathered treasures.
Your donation is being processed by World Parrot Trust-USA. All funds will be redirected to the New Zealand Parrot Trust.
