Nicole Woolard
Transplant Type: Liver
Update: Nicole received a liver transplant on February 19, 2020!
Nicole Woolard is fighting for her life. She has been ill off and on since the age of seven. She was finally diagnosed with congenital hepatic fibrosis when she was twenty-three years old. Most recently, Nicole has been suffering from Caroli’s disease and polycystic kidney disease (PKD), which commonly accompany congenital hepatic fibrosis. Doctors say a liver transplant is critical to her survival.
This has been a difficult time for Nicole, as she’s not able to be as active as she once was. She is extremely grateful for the love and support of her husband, Sluggo, their two sons, family and friends, who have all been by her side every step of the way. She has spent a lifetime of smiling through the pain. She misses spending time at church, working, and spending time with her husband and family doing the activities that they love to do. Nicole looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to live life with as few limitations as possible, but right now, she needs your help.
Unfortunately, Nicole’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
The average liver transplant costs approximately $812,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
When she receives her transplant, Nicole and her caregiver must temporarily relocate more than 150 miles from her home to be near the hospital during the recovery process, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food and lodging. Because of her declining health, she had to stop working several years ago, adding to the financial strain of her diseases.
