$7,500 goal

All funds raised here will be set aside and added to a capital building fund as Crook County's only animal sheltering structure is far beyond its useful life and in significant disrepair.  Built with heart  as the dream of Gladys Logsdon and Donna Whitcomb in 1995 with limited funds, this shelter was meant  as a temporary structure  meant  to last approximately 5 years while funds were sought for a permanent building…that dream never materialized and the building is now approaching its 23rd year!   Here's a look inside.

Despite constant efforts by Boards of Directors, staff and volunteers to make improvements, the shelter has deteriorated significantly. Wiring and plumbing require constant repair and maintenance.  Heating systems are not capable of keeping the animals warm without the use of portable heating units. These issues present potential fire hazards. The shelter lacks proper space for handling of behaviorally challenged dogs and there are no areas available for quarantine of sick animals. These issues present health and safety issues for animals, volunteers, and staff alike. External kennels are insecure presenting escape hazards.  These are a few obstacles our community faces when considering the care of our animals.

HSO's overall goal is to continue to secure funds to build a larger, safer, healthier, cost-efficient shelter to care for Crook County's animals ... an area covering 2900 sq miles with a population that has nearly doubled since then to 27,000 residents.  This will take a Village of which you are a valued participant!  Our funds-raising campaign will include all available sources such as grant-seeking, fundraisers, fundraising events and corporate donation requests.
