Inspired by the spirit of unity, service and shared humanity that arose in the U.S. following the events of September 11, 2001, ‘9/11 Day’ - also known as the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance - stands as a permanent tribute to those lost and injured, and those who rose in service.  The ‘College Meal Pack for 9/11 Day’ Program is helping organize campus volunteer service activities, focused on hunger relief, in observance of 9/11 Day in 2024.

The goal of these projects is to inspire more than 3,000 STUDENTS, plus faculty members and administrators, to join together during the month of September to pack at least 1.2 MILLION healthy, non-perishable meals.  With the help of local food pantries and other non-profit partners, all meals packed at these events will benefit individuals on their campuses and in their local communities who are at risk of hunger.

This special program is being funded by 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps, and organized in partnership with The Pack Shack’s Feed the Funnel program.

WHAT'S A COLLEGE MEAL PACK FOR 9/11 DAY EVENT?

On September 20, 2024, we will pack 100,000 shelf stable meals that will benefit our campus food pantry and other local organizations in our community. Prospective recipient organizations include, but are not limited to:

Boise State Campus Food Pantry
St. Vincent de Paul
The Salvation Army
Amity Campus Food Pantry
EL-ADA Community Action Partnership
GiraffeLaugh
Tomorrow's Hope
Holy Apostles Catholic Church
Cascade Food Pantry
City Hope
Star Outreach
Cathedral Food Pantry
First Presbyterian Church Food Pantry
Kuna Food Pantry

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

In response to the pressing issue of food insecurity gripping our local community, Boise State's Beta Alpha Psi chapter has made it our mission to take action. In the Treasure Valley, a staggering 10% of families and 14% of children are facing food insecurity, highlighting the urgent need for our collective efforts.

In 2022, we held our inaugural College Meal Pack (Feed the Funnel) event and the response was nothing short of inspiring.  In a few weeks, your generous support allowed us to pack 50,000 meals and be only one of two Beta Alpha Psi chapters to successfully put on an event.

In 2023, our wonderful professional partners and community came together again.  This time, we were able to prepare 100,000 meals making a significant impact in alleviating hunger.  This year, fueled by our past success and driven by the unwavering passion of our community, we are determined to continue providing meals to help the food in secure on campus and across southern Idaho.

College Meal Packs for 9/11 Day aren't just about providing meals; they are powerful symbols of unity and shared purpose. They bring together people from diverse backgrounds, united in their commitment to fighting hunger and making a difference in the lives of others. We invite you to join us in this meaningful endeavor.

Mark your calendars for September 20, 2024, as we embark on our second annual College Meal Pack for 9/11 Day event. Last year, the shelf-stable meals we prepared were distributed to 24 food banks and pantries across our region, reaching communities as close as Boise State University and as far as Cascade, Idaho. However, there were an additional 75 organizations on our list that we were unable to support.

Every dollar contributed goes a long way in stocking food pantries and ensuring that families in need have access to nutritious meals. Your donation, no matter the size, makes a tangible difference in putting food on the table for those who need it most.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your anticipated support. Together, let's make a meaningful impact in the fight against food insecurity and build a stronger, more resilient community for all.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!

The total budget for our College Meal Pack for 9/11 Day event is $40,000 and a generous grant has already covered 50% of this amount! We would deeply appreciate your contribution to help provide the remaining funding.
