Tour de Los Padres Update
After careful thought and planning, I have chosen to embark upon the Tour de Los Padres route starting Friday, May 29th. The remote backcountry trails and dispersed camping in the southern Los Padres forest are open, while the weather window for doing the route this year is rapidly closing. I will avoid the public by camping in my truck or the forest and will use a face mask for minimal resupply stops.
I hope to finish within in a fast 3 days, yet 4 days is a decent alternate goal. Thank you for your interest in this fundraiser for Mountains 2 Sea! I will be embarking on a 270 mile self-supported ride on mostly dirt forest roads, some trails and pavement called the "Tour de los Padres". There is no entry fee, but participants are invited to raise money for charity. To maximize the impact of this fundraiser, I was looking for a program that was small, local and ideally supporting young people.
I chose "Mountains 2 Sea" because their mission is to provide outdoor education and opportunities for personal development for under-served young folks. Many of us know first hand that spending time in natural environments can be a catalyst for healing, self-reliance, friendship and empowerment. I am really impressed with how this program is making a positive impact on young people's lives.
