How You Can Help

In Colombia, many children need access to pediatric heart surgery. It is estimated that roughly half (~50%) of children born with treatable heart conditions go without the critical care they deserve. 

At Childspring, we believe that every child should receive the health care they need. Since 2008, our Project Healthy Hearts program has provided life-changing heart surgeries for children living in rural Colombia. This year, our GA Gives campaign is focused on helping more children in Colombia access pediatric surgical care. 

And we need your help. 

GREAT NEWS! We have already reached our initial goal of raising $5,540 which will support five pediatric heart surgeries and much-needed program support funding. This funding will: 

• Cover the costs of pediatric screening, transportation, and other logistics so five children in rural Colombia can access surgeons located in urban areas. 
• Contribute to long-term, sustainable cardiology programming in Colombia.
• Provide critical resources to build and grow our Project Healthy Hearts program into the future.

Milagros's Story

Milagros was born in Medellin, a large city in central Colombia. However, the best place for her to receive her surgery was in Bogota, a few hours south by car or plane.  

Childspring helps children like Milagros reach the surgeons who can best support their surgery by providing access for critical factors like food, lodging, and transportation. 

Childspring also supports partner organizations that conduct neonatal screening in rural and low-income areas to reach children who would otherwise not know they had treatable heart conditions. 

In this way, Childspring helps remove barriers that prevent access to surgical care for children like Milagros.
