Max broke his elbow!

Max is a sweet Labrador puppy who had a tragic accident on Thanksgiving Day.  No one is sure how it happened, but he broke his elbow. The elbow is a complicated joint and won't heal right on it's own.  The surgery is equally complicated, and in this world - that means expensive.  His family did every thing they could to try and help him, but just did not have the resources to do the surgery.  They love him and wanted to give him a chance. When we heard about it, we did too. We immediately reached out to our wonderfully supportive veterinary community.  The good news is, surgery is possible.  The bad news is, it should have been done right away.  He's a puppy which means his body is growing like crazy so it's already trying to heal the joint.... badly.  The good news is, he's a puppy! That means he will heal fast.  The not-so-good news is, he will probably have arthritis in the future that will have to be dealt with.  But, he's a puppy!!  So he deserves a chance!
 
In this kind of situation, we might normally look to help the family keep him because they did nothing wrong.  But given his long-term prognosis, he needs to be placed with someone who knows his issues and will be able to monitor closely and respond appropriately.  The REALLY good news, is we have two experienced caregivers lined up already!

Now, all we need to do is get the surgery done.  And for that, we need your help.  Giving Max a chance to keep his leg - won't that be a wonderful Christmas present to him? To yourself? And in honor of every dog you've ever loved?
