¿Qué pasaría si estuvieras viviendo con tiempo prestado? 

Martín Castillo está a la espera de una nueva oportunidad de vida. Ha necesitado diálisis durante casi veinte años. Recientemente, fue diagnosticado con enfermedad insuficiencia renal en etapa terminal.  Ahora  los médicos dicen que es necesario un trasplante de riñón. Mientras espera su trasplante, soporta tratamientos regulares de diálisis, que  lo dejan exhausto y afectan su calidad de vida. 

Durante un momento tan desafiante, Martin  está agradecido de estar rodeado de un fuerte sistema de apoyo. Su hermosa esposa,  Chavella,  y su maravilloso hijastro,  que  han estado a su lado en cada paso del caminoproporcionando el amor y  el  aliento que tanto necesita.  Si bien  hasido muy difícil para  Martín  y  Chavella,estascircunstancias también los han acercado, fortalecido su verdaderarelación el uno en elotroy les han dado una perspectiva sobre lo que más importa enla vida. Martin  espera con ansias el trasplante de riñón que  le permitirá vivir su vida plenamente de nuevo. Más que nada, le gustaría volver a  trabajar y pasar tiempo con su familia, pero en este momento, necesita su ayuda.

Desafortunadamente, la esperanza de Martinde una nueva vida tiene un precio muy alto.

La plantarenal promediocuesta aproximadamente $ 442,000. Y eso  es solo el comienzo. Incluso con un seguro de salud, que cubrirá  una parte de los costos del trasplante,enfrentagastos significativos relacionados con la cirugía. Por el resto de su vida, necesitará atención de seguimiento y medicamentos diarios contra el rechazo. Los medicamentos post-trasplante son muy caros, y son tancríticos para su supervivencia como el trasplante en sí.

Después del procedimiento, Martin  debe viajar para llegar a  su centro de trasplantes  para evaluaciones y citas médicas. Esto se sumará a la ya  onerosa tensión financiera.

What if you were living on borrowed time? 

Martin Castillo is awaiting a new lease on life. He has been on dialysis for almost twenty years. Recently, he was diagnosed with End Stage Kidney Disease. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. While awaiting his transplant, he endures regular dialysis treatments, which leave him exhausted and take a toll on his quality of life.

During such a challenging time, Martin is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system. His beautiful wife, Chavella, and his wonderful stepson, who have been by his side every step of the way providing much needed love and encouragement. While it has been very hard for Martin and Chavella, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Martin looks forward to the kidney transplant that will allow him to live his life fully again. More than anything, he would like to get back to work and spend time with his family, but right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Martin’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.  

Following the procedure, Martin must travel to reach his transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. This will add to the already onerous financial strain.
