Over the years, statistics have shown that low-income communities are the most vulnerable and their needs are greatly influenced by health, economic, and education factors. During the pandemic, Latino children’s poverty rates increased, especially among children in immigrant families (Hispanic Research Center). Our goals are to facilitate access to resources about health, financial, economic security, reading, education, as well as arts and culture. Our communities face many hardships and we seek to increase access to the resources they might need during these challenging times. Visit www.LBFF.us to see how our Latino Book & Family Festivals have positively influenced our communities and have provided some of the aforementioned resources.
Our communities face many hardships, and we seek to increase the number of individuals using available resources during these challenging times, especially Latino families. The program goal is to target emerging needs, bring resources together, and reach families in-person or even virtually. Providing current information and sharing how to access resources available is a pathway to this end, which, in turn, builds the confidence level of families when accessing services.
In 2021, the program was held virtually and its programming reached over 40,000, with an engagement of 6,223 and a calculated impact of 251 people over a period of 4 months. Since 1997, 69 festivals have been held in 8 markets around the U.S with events happening every year thanks to the support of grants, partnerships, and volunteers. This is not just an event; it is a community empowerment program that creates a setting where everyone has equal opportunity to access available resources.
Empowering Latino Futures believes that an individual’s potential for greatness is only limited by their access to resources and support. By providing this program, our organization seeks to increase community success. www.LBFF.us
We hope that you can see the importance of this program, every year we hear from attendees that they learn something new, the they met an author, or that they want to get involved. Bringing books and resources to our communities is key; therefore, we will continue our efforts.
Thank you for your support.
