👋

Thanks for stopping by to read about why I agreed to spend the night at the shelter.

I'm so excited to be participating in the National Shelter Slumber Pawty with Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society!  This event is the largest collaborative effort amongst the animal shelter community.  This year's Slumber Pawty takes place on April 6, 2024 at noon, and lasts for a 24 hour period.

Participating shelters are recruiting fans (like me) who are committed to raising at least $500 for the shelters they are supporting.  I was asked to spend the night in an animal's kennel or another part of the shelter and share updates with followers on my social media channels to raise awareness about shelter life and ask for donations to reach my goal.

Why did I decide to do this again this year?  Have you ever been to the shelter?

The animals that come into our care have been staying longer.  People are not adopting dogs, which raises the cost of care of each animal.  As much as the staff do their diligence to promote dogs for adoption, the dogs sit and wait.

Many of the animals that come into the shelter haven’t received previous vet care, for some their medical conditions can be bad and costly to treat.

Big Boy, above, had been left outside, was not on heartworm prevention and contracted heartworm disease before he came into the shelter.  This picture was after his last heartworm treatment injection.  He was eventually transferred to another shelter and adopted, but he was with the shelter for months.

Coco, again not on heartworm prevention, contracted heartworm disease.

While the length of stay is becoming longer for these dogs, we do have some successes of people adopting the larger breed dogs.

Please consider a donation, of any size, to help the needy animals of Detroit through this event to reach my fundraising goal of $1,000.

I hope that you will consider the value of your donation in impacting the lives of the homeless and neglected animals in need of loving, forever families.

Many thanks in advance!

Are you ready to Pawty?!?!  Let's Go!!
