Why we Plunge?

The Caroline County Polar Bear Plunge was set up years ago by Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church. The purpose of the Polar Bear Plunge is to help organizations involved in the Plunge raise money for their own causes.

The Ladysmith Ruritan Club, and Ruritan Clubs across the nation, have a purpose to help other charitable organizations within their community. This event provides the perfect opportunity for us to help organizations raise the money they need for their causes.

This year the following organizations will be raising money for various causes:

Caroline's Promise- They use their funds raised to help students in need. From scholarships, to needed school supplies, to the empowerment of students in Caroline County.

The Caroline County YMCA- Will use the money they raise for their "Bright Beginnings" program. This allows students in need to go school shopping in August before the begining of the school year. Students shop for school clothes and are provided with their needed school supplies

Caroline County Habitat for Humanity- Will use their funds to funds a program called "The Future Builders Program."  This program will allow Caroline High School students to help build a high performance home for a local veteran.

Wright's Chapel UMC- Wright's Chapel uses its money to to help those in need with heating bills during the winter.

Paws for Purple Hearts- Paw's for Purple Hearts uses its money to help offset the cost of training service dogs who will be paired with veterans.

St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church- St. Mary's is Polar Bear Plunge powerhouse. They consistently raise thousands of dollars for their food bank.

The Ladysmith Ruritan Club- We use our funds raised to help the organizations involved. Each year the top five organizations are rewarded with a check of $500 from the Ladysmith Ruritan Club. We also provide two Caroline High School Seniors with a $1,000 dollar scholarship. One scholarship is given to a student going on to a 4 year college and the second scholarship is given to a senior who will pursue vocational training.
