In memory of Jerry Doody, you are invited

to sustain Volunteer Impact at Yolo Food Bank

Jerry Doody, a beloved and long-time volunteer serving vulnerable Clarksburg residents, passed away unexpectedly in December 2020. Three times a month, for more than six years, Jerry picked up food from the Yolo Food Bank food warehouse and operations facility in Woodland, and delivered it to the Eat Well Yolo and Emergency Food Assistance Program free, fresh food distributions in Clarksburg, a more than 60 mile round trip.  Every holiday season, he also assisted with the Thanksgiving Meal Kit deliveries to this rural Yolo County community.  He always carved out a few extra minutes on these runs to check in on his 100 year old aunt.  In addition, he assisted with  truck inspections for the Yolo Food Bank fleet.  "He was a wonderful man, and a great volunteer... a very caring soul," reflected Yolo Food Bank Director of Operations Corkey Mapalo.

Jerry's sisters also shared memories about their brother

and his inspiration to generously share his time to benefit others

"Jerry’s volunteer career began at 18 with a couple of summers working at a camp for kids with special needs.  He had a kind heart and could be counted upon to cheerfully pitch in for friends, family, and neighbors.  He was a lifelong blood donor, volunteered with Project R.I.D.E. in Elk Grove, and recently helped install the new play structure at Yolo County’s Bauer Building.

Growing up in Sacramento, Jerry had great times hanging out in the countryside with his Yolo County cousins -- two uncles farmed in Clarksburg.   He thought no one should ever go hungry surrounded by the abundance and variety of food grown here.

He truly loved driving, and had been fascinated by all sorts of vehicles from childhood.  He worked much of his career with CHP inspecting big rigs at the Donner Pass station.  So, he could put his interests and skills to good use with Yolo Food Bank.

Jerry enjoyed the camaraderie that volunteering for Yolo Food Bank provided.  It was a perfect fit for him."

Jerry is missed very much by his Yolo Food Bank family.
