On March 20, 2024, high winds triggered a wildfire that spread to our hockey rink. Much of the rink was destroyed, along with the player's shed containing hockey gear, rink equipment, tools, skates, uniforms, and more. Madison Hockey League, Madison Parks and Recreation, and Support Hoover Ridge have been fundraising for the Hoover Ridge Outdoor Recreation Center, which also includes a new roller hockey rink, but funds are needed now more than ever to have the rink built as quickly as possible. We need your help!

Background:

Hoover Ridge Park is one of the largest outdoor recreation areas within Madison County, Virginia. The 182-acre park is located off Fairground Road near Madison Primary School. While the park currently boasts numerous activities such as a driving range, sports fields, playgrounds, disc golf course, and a farmer's market, there is room for expansion to incorporate even more uses into the site.

The site has greater potential to continue to support community and economic development activities on a local and regional level, through the expansion of programs, events, facilities, and amenities.

The proposed master plan activates underutilized portions of the property with destination-quality facilities and amenities. These improvements will provide residents and visitors with additional activities and programs, including an inclusive playground, splash pads, basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, roller hockey rink, picnic areas, event pavilions, dog park, and accessible walking paths. The addition of infrastructures like a modern comfort station, pavilions, water, and electricity will support larger events and longer park visits. The plan also emphasizes the integration of sustainable environmental practices such as infiltration meadows, bio swales, and pollinator meadow gardens to enhance the natural beauty, environmental function, and habitat of the park. The design will include universal access to all facilities, creating an inclusive environment for all ages and abilities.
