Hudson River Housing has received the devastating news that the US Department of Veteran Affairs will no longer provide funding for our Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. Join us in keeping the promise to our homeless veterans in need by making a contribution to keep our programs for veterans running.
Hudson River Housing has made the sustaining commitment to our Dutchess County veterans that we will be there for them in a time of need. The de-funding of this program has a devastating and real impact on veterans who need housing assistance, and immediately threatens our ability to keep our promise of assistance to our local veterans. Additionally disappointing is that only three week notice was received that this funding, after five years, would be completely eliminated, ending the program on September 30, 2017.
The funding, totaling $516,145, enables Hudson River Housing to provide services for homeless veterans and their families as well as those at imminent risk of homelessness. It also funds five full-time Hudson River Housing staff members, two of whom are veterans themselves.
Since funding began in 2012, Hudson River Housing has served over 458 homeless or at-risk veteran families - exceeding the targets set by the VA. Services provided include outreach, housing location, counseling and rental assistance, financial planning, community resource links, employment assistance, transportation and other supports needed to help veterans obtain and sustain housing. Additionally, many more veterans have received referrals and other more limited assistance.
Currently, we have open cases with 30 veterans, with an average of ten new veterans seeking our services every month.
Make a contribution today. Let our veterans know we are here for them when they need us!
